Medical Weight Loss

Lasting weight loss is metabolic, not willpower. We test what’s really going on and build a physician-guided plan around it — starting with an initial appointment.

A plan built on your metabolism

True weight loss is about hormones, metabolism, and the root causes that diets ignore. At True You, we start with advanced metabolic and hormone testing, then design a medically supervised plan that may include modern medications, nutrition, and ongoing coaching.

You’re guided by a physician the whole way — with the testing and accountability that make results stick.

How it works

How the program works

A physician-guided path — not a one-size protocol.

A medically supervised plan that may include modern medications (GLP-1), nutrition, and coaching.

Why diets stop working — and what medical weight loss does differently

If you’ve lost the same weight more than once, the problem was probably never effort. Weight is regulated by hormones and metabolism: insulin, thyroid, cortisol, estrogen, and testosterone all influence appetite, where you store fat, and how much energy you burn. When one of them is off, cutting calories alone tends to stall — or backfire.

Medical weight loss starts by finding those drivers. Instead of handing you a generic meal plan, a physician looks at your labs, history, sleep, stress, and medications, then builds a plan that works with your biology. That can mean nutrition changes you can actually live with, strength work to protect muscle, treatment of an underlying hormone or metabolic problem, and modern medications when they’re clinically appropriate.

What can stall weight loss

These are the drivers we test for and address — often more than one at a time.

Insulin resistance

High insulin makes fat easier to store and harder to burn — especially around the middle.

A sluggish thyroid

Low or poorly converted thyroid hormone can slow metabolism and drain energy.

Hormone shifts

Perimenopause, menopause, and low testosterone can change body composition fast.

Poor sleep & stress

Short sleep and chronic stress raise cortisol and appetite and blunt willpower.

Lost muscle

Less lean mass means a lower metabolic rate — a common reason weight returns.

Eating patterns

Not “eating less,” but what, when, and how much protein and fiber you get.

GLP-1 medications: when they fit, and when they don’t

GLP-1 medications have changed what’s possible in weight loss. They work on appetite and blood-sugar signaling, which can make it easier to eat less without constant hunger. For the right patient, they can be a meaningful part of a plan.

They aren’t right for everyone, and they work best inside a broader program. Before prescribing, Dr. Hoff reviews your history, labs, and goals to decide whether a GLP-1 is appropriate. If it is, we monitor how you respond, watch for side effects, and pair it with nutrition and strength work so you lose fat — not just muscle. We also plan for the long term from the start, so you have a strategy for maintaining results rather than starting over.

Who it’s for

Medical weight loss may be a fit if…

  • You’ve tried diets and programs and the weight keeps coming back
  • You’re gaining weight around the middle despite eating well
  • Your blood sugar, A1c, or insulin is creeping up
  • Weight gain started with perimenopause, menopause, or a drop in energy
  • You want medical supervision rather than a one-size app or mail-order prescription
  • You’re ready for a plan built on labs and follow-up, not a quick fix

A weight loss doctor in Fredericksburg, with follow-ups that fit your life

Your first visit and lab work happen in person at our downtown Fredericksburg office at 904 Princess Anne St, so Dr. Hoff can get the full picture. After that, many check-ins can be handled virtually — which makes regular follow-up realistic for patients from Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and beyond.

True You is cash-based, so your visits aren’t cut short by insurance rules, and we walk through program costs openly at your consultation. Curious how peptides fit into a weight plan? Read peptides for fat loss and energy.

Protecting muscle while you lose fat

Fast weight loss can take muscle with it, and losing muscle lowers the number of calories your body burns at rest. That’s one reason weight so often comes back. Your plan includes enough protein, strength training matched to your starting point, and regular check-ins on how your body is changing — not just the number on the scale — so the weight you lose is mostly fat and the results hold.

Medical weight loss — common questions

Do you prescribe GLP-1 medications?
When clinically appropriate and after proper evaluation, modern weight-loss medications can be part of your plan. Everything is physician-supervised and individualized — book a consultation to see what fits you.
Is this covered by insurance?
True You is a cash-based practice, so care isn’t bound by insurance rules. We’ll be transparent about program costs up front during your consultation.
Is medical weight loss safe?
A physician-supervised program is designed with safety in mind. We review your health history and labs before recommending anything, choose treatments that fit your situation, and monitor you over time so we can adjust if something isn’t right.
How fast will I lose weight?
It varies from person to person. Your starting point, metabolism, hormones, and the treatments in your plan all play a role. We focus on steady, sustainable progress and track more than the scale — energy, labs, and how your clothes fit.
What happens if I stop a weight-loss medication?
That’s a conversation we have at the start. Some people regain weight when medication stops, which is why we build nutrition, strength, and habits alongside it and plan a careful transition when the time comes.
Do I have to follow a strict diet?
No crash diets. We give you practical nutrition guidance built around protein, fiber, and foods you actually enjoy — adjusted to your labs, schedule, and preferences.
Do I need lab work before starting?
Yes. Testing tells us whether insulin, thyroid, or hormones are part of the picture and helps us decide which treatments are appropriate. Labs are done in person at our Fredericksburg office.
Can I do follow-up visits virtually?
Many of them, yes. Your first visit and labs are in person, and much of the ongoing coaching and follow-up can be done virtually.
Am I a candidate for a GLP-1 medication?
That depends on your health history, labs, current medications, and goals. Dr. Hoff evaluates all of these before recommending a GLP-1, and if it isn’t a good fit, we’ll build the plan another way.
Do you offer medical weight loss for men?
Yes. Men often have different drivers — low testosterone and insulin resistance are common — so testing shapes a plan that fits. See our low testosterone page as well.
Is medical weight loss only for people with a lot of weight to lose?
No. Some patients have a lot to lose; others are fighting the last stubborn pounds or weight that arrived with perimenopause or a drop in testosterone. The plan is sized to your goals and your labs.
